Production designer Shruti Gupte created a room that recreates a library like atmosphere in the comfort of home. Featuring furniture, upholstery and lights from the House of Asian Paints
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if there was a space in your home that let you make the most of your hobby? Production designer Shruti Gupte created a room that not only reflects a person’s interests but also celebrates it. The persona she pictured was someone who would prefer spending their personal time amidst what they enjoy the most. Here, the person has a long-standing relationship with books. This is the home of a collector of interesting accessories, put on display and enjoyed thoroughly. The choice of colours display the seriousness of the activity and make the most of it. Since all the walls are of the same colour, the accessories stand in contrast.
All the furniture pieces from The House of Asian Paints add to the theme of the space. The seating options account for all manners of reading: Whether it’s the kind of person who likes to put their feet up, someone who likes to laze, or someone who prefers a cushioned arm chair. No matter what the choice, the furniture allows it. The coffee table, console and side tables add to the luxurious look of the room. The circular metal base and the marble top create stylish reflective pieces.
The upholstery on the sofas are in three distinct colours and textures. The main piece and the two armchairs next to it are in high contrast. One has a velvety touch and feel, the other has a soft patterned expression, while the third arm chair and ottoman have a natural linen texture. All of the upholstery is from the Sabyasachi Mukherjee for Nilaya range.
In a space where task lighting is very important, two sources have been introduced. One is a floor lamp and one is a table lamp. Both are placed on two far corners of the room, next to one seat each. Since these pieces are portable, each can be switched as per the seat one chooses to sit on. There is also a chandelier that spreads soft light across the room, maintaining a balance. All the lights have been chosen from the House of Asian Paints.
Shruti’s main choice of accessory here are the books. She has chosen a variety of books, showing the range of interest the person inhibiting the room would have. The other accessories work as supporting characters in this setting. Artworks and décor pieces that have been collected and placed aesthetically across the room add a layer of interest and personality to the space.
