Client Profile
For Akash Vyas—who lived in Dubai with his wife and six-year-old son at the time—purchasing a row house in Vadodara was the first step in creating the perfect home for his family and parents to live in when he moved back to India. However, since he lived in Dubai, renovating it from scratch posed the problem of finding the right contractor or service he could entrust his home with while he wasn’t physically present to oversee the project.
“I asked around for two months but wasn’t happy with most of the people I spoke to. However, a chance conversation with a friend led me to discovering the Beautiful Homes Service,” recalls Vyas. After signing up for the service and discussing his brief with a Customer Experience Specialist, he soon exchanged his ideas with designer Sapana Pandit, who has been affiliated with Asian Paints for over 10 years. We sat down with them to discuss their experience with the Beautiful Homes Service.
How Would You Describe The Design Process?
Sapana: To begin with, I brought a portfolio of my work along with a list of questions to understand the client and the entire family’s choices. Before taking down their brief, I first took them through a presentation of different styles in interior design to help them finetune exactly what they wanted and get all the technical details right. In this way, there are no communication gaps, and what you see will be what you will get.
Akash: While initially, I must admit, I was apprehensive about some of the design elements they encouraged me to include in the home instead of my own ideas, once I saw the house complete with all the designs put together, I realised the final look worked much, much better than I thought. We also appreciated how the team stuck to the 2D layouts and 3D plans [that were provided to us during the design process] down to every last detail.
How Was The Budget Planned Around The Project?
Sapana: Initially, the client was apprehensive about the budget, but once we tangibly showed them where the money would be going, what it will be spent on, and they saw the products they were getting, they began to make their own decisions on what to spend on and what they could sacrifice. During the renovation process, as they started to see the home coming together, the family decided to add finer detailing and elements to make the home even more functional and practical to live in.
What Was The Experience Like During The Renovation?
Akash: There were no communication gaps—we were constantly in direct contact with our Customer Experience Specialist and got regular updates of the progress on site. I signed up for the Beautiful Homes Service because I wasn’t going to be present in the city during the renovation—and didn’t want to bother my parents who lived in Vadodara but were too old to oversee it—and wanted to redo my home in the easiest and most relaxed way possible. And, that is exactly what I got. While there were some glitches along the way, when pointed out, they were routinely resolved. In the end, what we were presented in the 3D plans was exactly what we got.
How Were Materials And Swatches Chosen If The Client Lived Remotely?
Sapana: A major chunk of the decision-making process (70 per cent) was taken up and agreed upon with the 2D layouts and 3D plans—these included the fixed and loose furniture, wall-panelling and detailing around the home. The remaining elements (30 per cent) which comprised of soft furnishings, paint finishes, wallpaper selections and lighting fixtures had to be decided at a later stage once the skeleton of the home was complete. Swatches and images were sent over messages and emails.
Any Words Of Advice For Someone Signing Up For The Beautiful Homes Service?
Akash: Overall, I had a very good experience and have already recommended it to a few friends. When it came to quality and perfection, Asian Paints truly lived up to its name, and I was especially impressed with the high standard of safety and security we felt throughout the entire project. I have to also emphasise on the unparalleled sense of design and aesthetic that they bring to the table—with a wonderful knack of making even the smallest of rooms look big.
