Sabyasachi’s luxurious line of home fabrics celebrates Indian craft

As one of India’s most beloved fashion designers Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s couture collections are a constant celebration of the duality of maximalism and minimalism in Indian design. He is celebrated for his knowledge of textiles, transforming ancient textiles into modern silhouettes by using indigenous techniques like hand dying, embroidery and block printing. And, now in the best news for his fans, he has collaborated with Asian Paints for a range of wallpapers and furnishings to release Sabyasachi for Nilaya Fabrics.

From the textures and weaves found in North African homes in Morocco and Tunisia to the pomp, pageantry and vibrance of colour witnessed daily in cities such as Vrindavan, Jaipur and his hometown Kolkata, the designer’s line of Sabyasachi for Nilaya Fabrics will comprise five exquisite collections in a range of textiles.

Soofah comprises a neutral palette with muted tones that can pair or blend well with the existing décor in any home.

Thar has a blend of diaphanous and light linens, perfect for spaces in tropical or warmer cities.

Makhmal showcases rich and jewel-toned velvets as a tribute to the grandeur of festivities in the country.

Chowk is a blend of checks and stripes which can be interplayed for creating a unique but neat aesthetic.

Hazaribagh has a range of intricate prints which directly translate the uniqueness of his fashion designs onto his furnishings.

The entire collection is inspired by the idea of home, and the emotions of hope, love and memory attached to it that creates an ephemeral idea and intangible sensory impact. Mukherjee recalls smells and sights associated to childhood, such as wafts from the kitchen of a favourite dish being made by his mother or the touch of the warmest hug by a family member. It brings together joys, sorrows, solitude and bittersweet melancholy that take him back to a home where, in his heart, he belongs.
